This is a customizable order form for the 3DO and the various services offered. Please note that all costs listed are for service only, requiring you to ship not only the console but the mod/upgrade parts you have purchased yourself (with exception to the Full Recap Service as I will provide new capacitors from Console5)
3DORGB Mod Install
While the 3DO can output a clean S-Video signal by default, the lack of progressive mode output is a huge shortcoming. One solution to provide you with a crisp RGB image as well as 240P is this kit from RetroGamerStuff. Originally developed and produced by Dan Kuntz this kit was made open source and RGS took on production to keep these available. The latest revision also fixes previous issues with image center alignment and the inability to boot up into 240P mode by default. The full mod kit comes with both an 8 pin mini-din and a 9 pin mini-din AV port connector and you will need to decide which one you will want installed depending on your planned cable use. I have tested and confirmed these kits work perfectly with many popular upscalers such as the RetroTink 5X Pro, RetroTink 4K and the OSSC.
The 3DORGB kit can be purchased from the following website:
Retro Gamer Stuff
PLEASE NOTE: This kit is compatible with all 3DO models EXCEPT the “Anvil” motherboard models which were found in later FZ-10 revisions and the Goldstar model GDO-202. If you are unsure, PLEASE reach out to me using the form below and with the help of some pictures I can confirm compatibility before you order the kit or send to me for service. If I receive either and cannot perform the work I will send back and you will still have to pay for return shipping. Thanks!
Controller Reset Mod
The controller reset mod created by Robert Dale Smith of controlleradapter.com allows you to quickly reset back to the games main menu or all the way back to the system boot process with the quick press of a button combination. This can be useful on any 3DO system but specifically pairs well with an ODE mod like the Fixel ODE and MNEMO USB Host allowing you to return to the boot menu and rapidly switch games without having to reach for the system each time. This mod solders directly on top of the controller port PCB and connects to a reset point on the system motherboard.
The Controller reset mod board can be purchased from the following website:
Controller Adapter
Swappable Battery Mod
The 3DO keeps your game save stored in internal onboard memory, powered solely by a tabbed coin cell battery. As with all batteries, over time this can lose its ability to hold a charge and not only prevent you from saving games but also lose any saved games you currently have on the system. You can avoid this by replacing with a fresh CR2032. Unfortunately like many systems of the era this battery is soldered directly to the system board making replacement more difficult than it needs to be. This service will remove your current battery and replace with a CR2032 holder so future batteries can simply be popped out and the replacement socketed without requiring any soldering. This service includes the battery holder itself, the install service and a brand new CR2032 will be socketed for you.
PLEASE NOTE: Any saved games you have in system memory WILL be lost during this install process so please be aware of that before sending me the system for the service!
Full System Recap
Electrolytic Capacitors have an estimated shelf life of about 15 years and many of these old retro gaming systems are long past that time. Prevent unwanted power, video or audio issues by proactively replacing these in your 3DO system. If your 3DO is already exhibiting issues a failed capacitor could be the culprit and is usually a good first step in the diagnosis and repair. All capacitors will be replaced on the system motherboard with a cap kit from Console5 which I will provide for this service, included in the cost
Full Service Cleaning
After years of heavy use many consoles will exhibit accumulation of dirt, dust and debris and this can not only impact the aesthetic appearance of the system but dirty system components can impact component life and performance. Your console will be completely disassembled and cleaned from the inside out. All PCB and internal electrical components will have dust and debris removed via an electronic air compressor and then be cleaned with 99% isopropyl alcohol and brushed clean. Outer shell and other non-electronic components will be taken apart and soaked in a soap/water mixture and carefully scrubbed to remove stains and debris buildup. Any light markings, scuffs or other blemishes will be safely removed to the best of my ability. Once the console is re-assembled the outer shell will be given a coat of plastic UV protectant to restore shine and prevent UV damage
