This is a customizable order form for the Lynx and the various services offered. Please note that all costs listed are for service only, requiring you to ship not only the console but the mod/upgrade parts you have purchased yourself (with exception to the Power Circuit Repair and Full Recap Service as I will provide new parts/capacitors from Console5)
BennVenn IPS Screen Install
While the original backlit color screen on the Lynx was impressive for the time, playing the system these days can be quite an adjustment compared to modern displays thanks to washed out colors, contrast issues and the amount of ghosting/blur. You can see your Lynx games in a whole new light with a modern IPS LCD from BennVenn. Similar to the Game Gear, I consider a screen upgrade on the Lynx to be mandatory if you plan on spending quite a bit of time with the system and don’t mind replacing OEM parts. The cost difference between Lynx I and Lynx II is due to the fact the model 1 upgrade requires a lot more soldering. On Model 2 systems you only need to solder a single wire for scanline capability so the difficulty of each install is reflected in the cost.
The BennVenn IPS LCD kit can be purchased from the following websites:
Lynx IPS LCD Kit – BennVenn’s Shop
Atari Lynx LCD Mod and VGA Kits – K-Retro Shop
PLEASE NOTE: I am happy to try and repair Lynx systems with non-functioning screens but that will incur an additional charge for the diagnosis and extra repair work. This service cost ASSUMES you are sending me a working Lynx and it simply needs to be replaced with the upgrade kit. If you wish to purchase and send in a touch sensor add-on (for scanline toggling) I will include that install in the service cost due to its simple install.
Power Circuit Repair
If you have a Lynx exhibiting power issues such as not turning on, working on adapter power but not batteries (and vice versa) or showing anomalies on the screen (such as a large black circular area) the likely culprit is your power circuit having a failing component. This service will replace your zener diode, two transistors, mosfet and the power jack all with new parts from Console5.com (included in the cost). You can also proactively have these parts replaced for future proofing especially if you are already going to replace all the capacitors at the same time
Full Recap Service
Electrolytic Capacitors have an estimated shelf life of about 15 years and many of these old retro gaming systems are long past that time. Prevent unwanted power, video or audio issues by proactively replacing these in your Lynx system. If your Lynx is already exhibiting issues a failed capacitor could be the culprit and is usually a good first step in the diagnosis and repair. All capacitors will be replaced on the system motherboard with a cap kit from Console5 which I will provide for this service, included in the cost
Full Service Cleaning
After years of heavy use many handhelds will exhibit accumulation of dirt, dust and debris and this can not only impact the aesthetic appearance of the system but dirty system components can impact component life and performance. Your console will be completely disassembled and cleaned from the inside out. All PCB and internal electrical components will have dust and debris removed via an electronic air compressor and then be cleaned with 99% isopropyl alcohol and brushed clean. Outer shell and other non-electronic components will be taken apart and soaked in a soap/water mixture and carefully scrubbed to remove stains and debris buildup. Any light markings, scuffs or other blemishes will be safely removed to the best of my ability. Once the console is re-assembled the outer shell will be given a coat of plastic UV protectant to restore shine and prevent UV damage. Depending on the handheld system I will do my best to buff out light scratches on the screen/panel as well
