This is a customizable order form for the Game Gear and the various services offered. Please note that all costs listed are for service only, requiring you to ship not only the console but the mod/upgrade parts you have purchased yourself (with exception to the Full Recap Service as I will provide new capacitors from Console5)

IPS Screen Install
Growing up with a Game Gear the color screen on a portable was mind-blowing back then, but now it leaves a lot to be desired. Not only because we are used to much higher quality displays but because over the years and with the Game Gear’s notorious capacitor issues many of the screens are nothing but a washed out blurry mess. While a recap alone can usually restore a Game Gear to working order, these newer IPS backlit screens make a huge difference and I personally consider them mandatory for extended use and comfort when playing these older handhelds. I offer the option to have you purchase a screen kit and send it in with the system and in that case I will install any kit you send, Bennvenn/McWill/CleanScreen, etc. (NOTE – If you choose to send in a kit it is YOUR responsibility to ensure you have purchased a kit compatible with your model – please contact me if you need help assessing your Game Gear revision). If you don’t want the hassle of ordering and then shipping to me, I have a “JRG Provides Kit” option that has the LCD kit cost added in. When choosing this option you just need to send me the Game Gear itself and I will order the kit for you and have it shipped direct to my workshop for installation.

The BennVenn IPS LCD kit can be purchased from the following websites:

The CleanScreen IPS kit can be purchased from the following websites:
CleanScreen IPS – RetroSix

PLEASE NOTE: I am happy to try and repair Game Gear systems with non-functioning screens but that will incur an additional charge for the diagnosis and extra repair work if the issue is more than the actual screen or replacement process itself

CleanJuice Battery Install
Nothing worse than having to constantly search around for SIX AA batteries that the Game Gear chews through in no time. Battery life is dramatically increased when going with a screen mod like above but regardless, being able to plug your Game Gear into a USB-C charger and get 10+ hours of life out of a charge is a huge quality of life improvement. While the CleanJuice mod is a simple drop in replacement on an aftermarket shell, if you are trying to modify a stock/OEM Game Gear shell, some modifications to the battery compartments and plastic shell (internal only) are required. I offer this service as not everyone feels comfortable trying to modify the shell and risking damage to the system. The CleanJuice GG mod kit can be purchased from the following site:

CleanJuice GG USB-C Mod – HandHeld Legend
CleanJuice GG USB-C Mod – RetroSix

Full Recap Service
Electrolytic Capacitors have an estimated shelf life of about 15 years and many of these old retro gaming systems are long past that time. Game Gear in particular is notorious for failing/leaking capacitors that will cause a whole host of symptoms such as washed out video, no audio or a completely garbled/non-functioning screen. I’ve seen many Game Gears come in “not working” that were repaired with simply a capacitor replacement. I’ve also seen a handful that were beyond repair due to trace/pad damage so even if your Game Gear is working ok currently, if you don’t know a recap has been done in its service life it is highly recommended as proactive maintenance

Full Service Cleaning
After years of heavy use many handhelds will exhibit accumulation of dirt, dust and debris and this can not only impact the aesthetic appearance of the system but dirty system components can impact component life and performance. Your console will be completely disassembled and cleaned from the inside out. All PCB and internal electrical components will have dust and debris removed via an electronic air compressor and then be cleaned with 99% isopropyl alcohol and brushed clean. Outer shell and other non-electronic components will be taken apart and soaked in a soap/water mixture and carefully scrubbed to remove stains and debris buildup. Any light markings, scuffs or other blemishes will be safely removed to the best of my ability. Once the console is re-assembled the outer shell will be given a coat of plastic UV protectant to restore shine and prevent UV damage. Depending on the handheld system I will do my best to buff out light scratches on the screen/panel as well
