This is a customizable order form for the Game Boy and the various services offered. Please note that all costs listed are for service only, requiring you to ship not only the console but the mod/upgrade parts you have purchased yourself (with exception to the Full Recap Service as I will provide new capacitors from Console5)
FunnyPlaying IPS Screen Install
While the Game Boy screen could be considered adequate back in 1989, even then it wasn’t without issues. Those of you who had one remember being huddled over any decent light source you could find and how unplayable it was in non-ideal lighting situations. Trying to play a stock Game Boy these days is even worse thanks to years of superior backlit screen technology in all portable electronics. This screen is a complete game changer, I have one in my daily use Game Boy and the clarity, brightness and customization options for color palettes are incredible.
The FunnyPlaying Q5 IPS LCD kit can be purchased from the following websites:
FunnyPlaying Q5 IPS – HandHeld Legend
FunnyPlaying Q5 IPS – FunnyPlaying.com
While not all IPS screens offer a bracket option, I HIGHLY recommend one if it does, like the Q5 IPS. It makes my job much easier and I can charge less since alignment is a non-issue (NOTE: If you buy the above IPS kit from FunnyPlaying.com instead of HandHeld Legend, they include the bracket in the kit so you DO NOT need to purchase separately, the links below are for those who bought from HandHeld Legend). I also recommend a new glass lens as the Q5 screen is slightly larger than the OEM and this will give you a larger viewing area plus it will hold up better from scratches. Both items can be found below:

PLEASE NOTE: There are multiple options for this service so please choose carefully. I charge more if you do not include a mounting bracket as it takes more effort to get it lined up perfectly vs the bracket which is simply drop-in. I also charge more for an OEM shell installation as that requires modification of the plastic case for the new screen. I’m willing to install any IPS LCD kit for you it doesnt have to be FunnyPlaying Q5, this is just my recommendation based on personal experience. You can select this option even if a different kit. HOWEVER – Based on the added difficulty and much worse results I do not offer install services for older backlit screen mods that require the use of a bivert chip, it’s just not worth my time for what you get so if you send me one I will return to you at your cost.
OEM Screen Repair
If you like to stay nostalgic and prefer keeping the OEM screen intact but it’s not working properly, this is the service for you! 99% of the time the issue is related to poor connections at the base of the screen to the LCD flex cable. Reflowing the solder along that ribbon joint will usually resolve and give you all your pixels back, no more blank vertical lines! If the screen is not repairable with this method or upon further troubleshooting and I have a spare OEM screen PCB on hand I will offer to swap it in for you for an additional fee. Any LCD PCB’s I swap into your Game Boy will have been recapped
CleanAmp Install
Another common issue with the DMG Game Boy is degraded audio quality and volume. If you want a cleaner interference-free audio experience plus much louder sound coming out of that speaker, this is the kit to install. It essentially bypasses the stock audio circuit to this custom PCB and then direct to the speaker. You can keep the stock/OEM speaker if you want to, but it pairs really well with a newer FunnyPlaying speaker which I will also link below. Since the speaker replacement is trivial I don’t charge extra if you send one in for replacement, its only two wires that need to be soldered after all.
The RetroSix CleanAmp and FunnyPlaying speaker replacement can be purchased from the following websites:

CleanPower Install
Due to the age and instability on the original stock power regulator I highly recommend replacing with this kit. If your Game Boy has a dim screen or doesn’t power on and a recap of the regulator does not resolve, this is a great solution as it provides a smoother and more stable 5V input to the Game Boy and also works best with newer backlit screens and flash carts that have a higher draw on the system.

Full Recap Service
Electrolytic Capacitors have an estimated shelf life of about 15 years and many of these old retro gaming systems are long past that time. Prevent unwanted power, video or audio issues by proactively replacing these in your Game Boy system. If your Game Boy is already exhibiting issues a failed capacitor could be the culprit and is usually a good first step in the diagnosis and repair. All capacitors will be replaced on the system motherboard with a cap kit from Console5 which I will provide for this service, included in the cost
Full Service Cleaning
After years of heavy use many handhelds will exhibit accumulation of dirt, dust and debris and this can not only impact the aesthetic appearance of the system but dirty system components can impact component life and performance. Your console will be completely disassembled and cleaned from the inside out. All PCB and internal electrical components will have dust and debris removed via an electronic air compressor and then be cleaned with 99% isopropyl alcohol and brushed clean. Outer shell and other non-electronic components will be taken apart and soaked in a soap/water mixture and carefully scrubbed to remove stains and debris buildup. Any light markings, scuffs or other blemishes will be safely removed to the best of my ability. Once the console is re-assembled the outer shell will be given a coat of plastic UV protectant to restore shine and prevent UV damage. Depending on the handheld system I will do my best to buff out light scratches on the screen/panel as well
